To followup on a topic that came up during our Q&A session today, I did some looking around for hardcopies of books like the QuickLook Drug Book (QLDB) and Stedman’s Medical Terms & Phrases (SMTP).
- For the BOS, anyone wishing to grab a hardcopy of that can get one through AHDI (https://www.ahdionline.org/store/ViewProduct.aspx?id=4050804). It’s 50$ with the member discount.
- For the QLDB and SMTP, there are some versions on amazon with a range of pricing.
- I looked on ThriftBooks and did not see anything competitive for QLDB but did for Stedman’s medical dictionary and abbreviations (https://www.thriftbooks.com/browse/?b.search=stedman%27s%20medical%20#b.s=mostPopular-desc&b.p=1&b.pp=30&b.oos&b.tile).
- There were some options on alibris for QLDB (https://www.alibris.com/booksearch?mtype=B&keyword=quick+look+drug+book&hs.x=0&hs.y=0) and SMTP (https://www.alibris.com/booksearch?mtype=B&keyword=stedman%27s+medical+term&hs.x=0&hs.y=0).
- abebooks has some results for SMTP (https://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?cm_sp=SearchF-_-topnav-_-Results&kn=stedman%27s%20medical%20term&sts=t) and some older versions of the QLDB
- betterworldbooks was out of stock for SMTP but had some QLDB (https://www.betterworldbooks.com/search/results?q=quick%20look%20drug%20book)
- half price books has QLDB (https://hpb.com/products?utf8=%E2%9C%93#eyJmaWx0ZXJzIjp7InJhcmVGaW5kIjpmYWxzZSwibGFuZ3VhZ2UiOiJFTkcifSwidHlwZSI6bnVsbCwic29ydCI6bnVsbCwia2V5d29yZHMiOiJxdWljayBsb29rIGRydWcgYm9vayIsInNpemUiOjEwLCJmcm9tIjowfQ==) and SMTP (https://hpb.com/products?utf8=%E2%9C%93#eyJmaWx0ZXJzIjp7InJhcmVGaW5kIjpmYWxzZSwibGFuZ3VhZ2UiOiJFTkcifSwidHlwZSI6bnVsbCwic29ydCI6bnVsbCwia2V5d29yZHMiOiJzdGVkbWFuJ3MgbWVkaWNhbCB0ZXJtcyIsInNpemUiOjIsImZyb20iOjB9)
I have not used many of these websites before. If anyone has and has good/bad experiences to share as well as any other sources for books, please do!
I would also just like to warn everyone that, since the course hierarchy is program material, BOS, school-issued resources, and then internet sources, it would be recommended to check anything against the course or school resources, especially on your tests and exams.

Thanks for this topic.
I was wondering if someone has come across a good website to check pronunciations.
I have not been able to access my Stedman’s Online dictionary (still working with Tech Support but not holding my breath on that one).
Today, just to hear ‘acetylsalicylic acid’ I found this website – https://www.howtopronounce.com/
Does anyone have another site that is better?
Thanks
Denise

Hi Denise,
Sometimes Wikipedia will have a little sound icon for a recording to help with pronunciation. I also used to use YouTube as a student. I would just type in disease/condition names and would often find videos of doctors explaining things online. This can be helpful to “prime” your ear before listening to chapter dictations.
Happy typing!
